Cold Weather & Burndown: Why Waiting a Few Days Could Pay Off

Updated: Apr 18

Welcome to Knox Ag's Weekly Field Report: Flight Plan.

In this week’s update, I’m sharing a quick heads-up about early-season burndown. With overnight lows still dipping below 50°F across most of the area, it might be smart to hold off on herbicide applications — especially if you’re targeting winter annuals like marestail.

What to Watch For

  • Uptake slows significantly below 60°F

  • I like to see temps consistently above 50°F for a couple days before and after an application

  • One cold night isn’t a deal-breaker — but several in a row can be

  • Best time to hit winter annuals is before they bolt

Next week, I’ll dig deeper into marestail management and share some specific product tips for no-tillers. In the meantime, feel free to give me a call if you’ve got questions.
