This week at Knox Ag Aviation, we’re stepping back from field updates to reflect on something much more important. Memorial Day is personal for us. And while some might use the weekend for sales or promotions, we’re using it to remember those who gave everything.

Planting is nearly wrapped up here in southeast Nebraska — most folks are 90 to 95 percent done. While the dry weather helped get crops in the ground on time, it also means we’ve jumped straight into irrigation season.

We caught some much-needed rain yesterday, and even though the ground’s still a little tacky, we’ll be back out planting and spraying before long. With that in mind, I wanted to talk about something I’ve had a few questions on this week: the importance of sprayer cleanout before switching between crops.

It’s the third week of April and while not everything is moving at once, there’s plenty happening. We’ve got some planters rolling, sprayers catching narrow windows, and a lot of decisions being made based on weather and soil. Here’s what I’m seeing this week from both the cockpit and conversations with growers on the ground.

In this week’s update, I’m digging into marestail management — especially for no-till or minimum-till fields where this weed can get out of hand fast. Now that temps are finally warming up, it’s a good window to start burndown, and I’m sharing what’s worked well for us using Sharpen herbicide as part of a strong spring strategy.
