As we close the books on 2025, the tone is a little more reflective than usual. Soybeans came through solid, but corn never had a fair shot. This year reminded us just how unpredictable farming can be — and how important it is to stay consistent.

Tar Spot has been confirmed in at least 14 Nebraska counties, and more confirmations are expected soon. The instinct might be to spray early — but spraying too soon often leads to needing a second pass. Our best strategy? Stick with the plan: spray at tassel.

We’re staying on top of stripe rust in wheat this week with a unique trial in York County. Disease pressure has been building, and we had a good weather window to get in and make a targeted application.

Not much flying today, but plenty of prep. Status herbicide is a popular herbicide this time of year, and we’re working with guys to make sure their adjuvant packages are dialed in. I like Bronc Triple early—it’s got nitrogen and NIS, so it covers your bases in one jug without getting too aggressive.

Planting is nearly wrapped up here in southeast Nebraska — most folks are 90 to 95 percent done. While the dry weather helped get crops in the ground on time, it also means we’ve jumped straight into irrigation season.

We caught some much-needed rain yesterday, and even though the ground’s still a little tacky, we’ll be back out planting and spraying before long. With that in mind, I wanted to talk about something I’ve had a few questions on this week: the importance of sprayer cleanout before switching between crops.
